Also...How three old Grognards got started Podcasting.

It’s February 2020, the beginning of a really rough year. I’m sitting around, in the living room of the house my gaming group and I are renting. Me and Lou and Bill as well as a couple others are having a few cocktails after a long day of gaming and just shooting the breeze. So, I come up with this idea to do YouTube videos. Lou immediately shoots me down citing all of those tech things that I gave absolutely no consideration to. So, then I say, let’s do a podcast. We bounce ideas around, Lou seems to be interested and Bill is just laughing at the spectacle that’s unfolding before him, a couple of middle-aged men three sheets to the wind, talking about starting a podcast. Neither of us know anything about podcasts. I don’t even listen to any, at least at that time I didn’t. All I knew, was it was kind of, sort of, like a radio talk show.

We have a great week of gaming and drive the three hours back home to our families, our jobs, and a pandemic that is beginning to unfold. In a short couple of weeks our every Monday night game is canceled because this pandemic is really starting to get out of hand. There’s panic, sickness, and sadly, lots of death. It is a very uncertain time and I no longer have my every week release from reality, that thing that I look forward to that keeps my mind healthy. The pandemic took gaming away from me.

We have had some great guests from the You Tube community like The Craft Father DM Scotty, Dave and Ted from Nerdarchy, Captain Corajus from Retro RPG Reviews (Check him out), and Convention organizer and professional GM Scott Legault.

I get a phone call one day from Lou who says “are you still serious about doing a podcast?”

I say “Sure.”

Lou responds, very seriously “No. Are you serious? I mean really serious?”

I say “Yeah I am really serious. I think it would be really cool and fun. Why?”

That’s when Lou lays it on me. He just spent a bunch of money on podcasting equipment. Now, I spoke with Lou that day about it and I knew if he hadn't spoke to Bill yet, he was soon going to gauge how serious Bill was too. We were both in, lock, stock, and barrel. We were about to become pod casters. We still, knew nothing about it. And arguably, we still don’t.

This is the beginnings of The Dungeon Master’s Dojo podcast. In the time that’s passed since we first aired on June 23, 2020, we have learned a lot and still have a great deal to learn yet. We’ve made some awesome friends like Aaron and Jared from the “Level Up Your Gaming Podcast”, Author and Dungeon Master Matt Phillion, Hujrot Johansen from “HiBriD Gaming”, the cast of the D20 To Curtain” Podcast, Zac Goins and company from the “Bite Sized Gaming Podcast”, & the cast of “A Fool’s Quest” podcast.

It is been absolutely great and we all look forward to more of talking Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop RPG’s.

This is the home for blogs and episode transcripts. You can expect these to drop every Friday. The DMD looks forward to being your workweek companion.

See you next time in the dojo.
